“Fantastico”
Date of review: 8 Sep 2010
I have been a customer of Marine Ices for a number of years and it has never disappointed. Ever. The food is truly fabulous, and that's everything I've ever tried. My favourite would have to be the Chicken Escalope with spagetti and sauce but the pizzas are amazing too. The one thing you MUST NOT leave without trying is one of their desserts. Simply amazing!
Only one thing to say - GO GO GO GO GO!!!

A London institution. My dad used to take me here for pizza and ice cream when I was little, and I still love it to this day.
There's a cosy dining area for lunch and dinner, and a separate italian gelateria for dessert, with a little street kiosk in the summer. The food is homely and comforting, but still authentic: the Pasta is 'al dente', the pizza is crisp and hot, and the ice cream is some of the best in London.
It's a real family place, overrun with kids at the weekend, so probably not the best choice for a romantic meal...
The service is friendly and prompt, and the mostly female staff seem to have a 'black tight miniskirt' uniform which my dad always took the time to appreciate!
Go for the Pappardelle Dante, with a scoop of vanilla and an espresso to follow, and you can't go far wrong!

There are many children on a Saturday afternoon, but I found they were very well behaved (unlike Byron in Kensington)and obviously enjoyed the food .The food is Italian ,with top notch ingredients, executed simply and cooked fresh to order. The pasta is al dente; the pizza crisp; the veal tender;and the ice creams are easily the best in London. And all for a price you will simply not find anywhere in London for this level of quality. This is still family owned and run, unlike the plethora of "chains" up and down both sides of the street all the way past Camden market.
It is not fine dining, but a friendly and relaxed place where you can eat what you feel like from their menu and know that it is not microwaved;reconstituted;pre-cooked;portion-controlled rubbish.
And the espresso is excellent too.

I first came here a couple of years ago, and always drop in when I'm around. Although I've never eaten any hot food, I can definitely say that it's one of the best places in London to go for dessert. With a wide range of flavours, the ice creams come in generous portions, and there's always a smile from the person serving you. It's very good value for what you get, and staff are always happy to help you choose exactly what you want. It may be a little cramped at times, but when you see the signatures of patrons such as Jude Law up on the wall, you know it's going to be worth it.

While there is a restaurant inside, the best way to get ice cream from this little shop is to visit the hole in the wall, flirt with the cute French guys serving you, taste-test everything, and finally settle on a couple of flavours - which they will cram either in a cone or a little paper cup for you. Then take a walk up to Primrose Hill, sit in the sunshine and eat your ice cream, and then lie back and enjoy one of the few beautiful days a year the English summer has to offer.
The ice cream is absolutely fabulous and it's about 1.70 a scoop, 2.40 for 2, and so on and so forth. They also sell ice cream in bulk to take home, but eating it outside while meandering about on a lazy Sunday afternoon is probably the best way to go.
Now go, and pick me up some ice cream on your way back home.

The ice-cream is great, but let's not forget about the restaurant. This is a local, family type place, cheep and cheerful but really good, basic Italian. Their linguine al scoglio is fantastic, and they do pretty good pizzas as well. I wouldn't bother with the starters, but for a great plate of pasta or pizza with some house red wine, it's a winner.
Plus, the dessert menu is gigantic and you can invent your own sundaes. Coconut ice-cream with ginger pieces was a recent one of mine.
